Details:
The simple story is that Gabriel Mann is a singer songwriter currently living and working in Los Angeles, CA. But the real story is that there is nothing simple about the music that he writes and performs. Personal and universal, intricate yet accessible, his music takes you on a journey of aural expression.
To listen to Gabriel is to experience a roller-coaster of emotion in song. At times you find yourself rocking along with the exuberant pounding of the keyboards, his voice powerful and soaring. The next moment you are captivated in a quiet reverie of love and longing, his voice soft and yearning. He has a wry and perceptive way of capturing a moment or experience that allows us to see it and feel it anew.
Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Gabriel had limited exposure to a lot of popular music until his sister brought home some warped records from her college collection. Needless to say, once his musical horizons were opened up, the expansion has never ended. You can still hear hints of early influences like Elvis Costello and Genesis, now combined with some of the rich input from the indie and popular music community, all the while keeping true to his own musical vision.
Gabriel has done about everything you can do in the music world, including writing scores for video games and TV shows. FOX's "Arrested Development", ABC's "What About Brian?" and "Office Space" have all featured his music and voice. Songs as diverse as "My Little Box" in Ghost Ship and "Remember" from Sleepover bear his signature. And besides his own albums, he has produced for artists like Sara Barielles (her "Careful Confessions" album) and Naimee Coleman.
He was the Overall Grand Prize winner in 2003's USA Songwriting Competition for "Lighted Up". Radio & Records named Gabriel as one of their "Artists to Watch" for 2005 and he's one of Music Connections top 100 unsigned artists in Los Angeles. Most recently he won the Just Plain Folks 2nd prize in the College Rock Album category, from a field of 25,000 albums.
Besides playing in intimate venues such as Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe and Room 5, he has opened in arenas for Alanis Morissette and Jamie Cullum. No matter the size, Gabriel has an easy way of engaging his audience, not only with his music, but with a genuine laugh out loud sense of humor.
From his first release "Careen" in 2000 through this much anticipated release, his music has made him a must see in the world of alternative singer/songwriter rock. Produced by Mann and renowned indie producer and artist Linus of Hollywood (Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, Margo Guryan, Wisely, Mello Cads), and mixed by Dave Trumfio (Wilco, Rilo Kiley, Earlimart, OK Go), this is Mann's most ambitious and sonically satisfying album yet, with all new songs, a cover of Alan Parsons Project's "Eye in the Sky," plus a bonus track new version of "OK Alone."
