Twin brothers John and Peter Coco have been playing together for as long as they can remember. With John on guitar and Peter on bass, both players have evolved and grown together as artists, assimilating many different styles on the way. The Coco Brothers are steeped heavily in tradition, getting their start playing in Gospel churches and blues and funk bands. Both players started delving into jazz at around the same time, studying masters like Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Ray Brown, Paul Chambers, and Milt Hinton by listening to and transcribing the work of these greats. Peter and John both immersed themselves in this "Aural Tradition," and felt this would be the perfect title for their first CD project.

The Coco Brothers have performed with many notable jazz musicians in the New York area, including Frank Vignola, Jerry Weldon of the Harry Connick Jr. Band, trumpeter Jon Faddis, and pianist Dave Lalama. They continue to perform in the NYC/Long Island area at many different venues.

"Aural Tradition" is a straight-ahead, no-nonsense, pure JAZZ album. John's pure and earthy guitar tone compliments Peter's huge and sustaining bass. The bass and guitar are both supported by the unobtrusive and sensitive playing of Jed Kosiner on drums. Every track has a character all it's own, and included are two originals, "Djangism," by John, and "Milt's Rhythm," by Peter. "Djangism" is a tribute to the great Django Reinhardt, and is in the style of this great Gypsy jazz guitarist. "Milt's Rhythm," also a tribute, is dedicated to the great bassist Milt Hinton, and performed in the slap bass style he pioneered.

So, if you love hard swinging jazz, you will definitely love "Aural Tradition!"
