It's music that sounds like hypothetical result of Ben Folds sitting next to Freddie Mercury in a philosophy class taught by Paul McCartney.

"This release was a lot of fun to listen to. Gattis and company aren't afraid to experiment and try different things. Be careful--some of these songs are ridiculously catchy. I've found myself more than once whistling "Christopher" or wailing the lyrics of "Twenty Dollar Suit". You definitely need to check out Dullard."

"If you want to watch a local artist who has a lot of great potential, please check out Will Gattis.

When Will Gattis was but a young lad, he did not listen to the music most young lads listened to. The young composer, right as he began to come up with small melodies of his own on the piano, discovered inspiration in a most unusual place: a combination of ragtime, which he was learning to play, music he learned in his middle school chorus, and most of all, the music of his favorite composer: Nobuo Uematsu, a composer of video game music. Spending most of his time at the piano figuring out songs by ear, the young Will Gattis learned about melodies and chord progressions. He experimented frequently, writing simple 30 second (highly repetitive) instrumental songs for the piano (heâll play you some if you ask him). Luckily, Will could also hold a pitch when it came to singing, so when he hit high school, a couple of rock bands had Will as their vocalist, and Will very quickly learned to love classic rock, which swiftly became incorporated into his music.
In Spring of 2004, the then high schooler Will Gattis finally, after many attempts, found himself a band format that worked for his music: Piano (played by himself), Bass (played by classmate Nick Langley), and Drums (played by an old friend, Jaeger Wells). The band, which originally was known as the Will Gattis Band, played several shows around the Portland, Maine area before Will had saved up enough money for a quality studio recording of his music. This wasnât the first time Will had entered a studio, however, it was the first enjoyable time he had been in a studio (I wonât name names). In a total of tree days, with the third day being primarily mixing, the Will Gattis Trio (as they were now called) and award winning producer Steve Drown recorded what originally was going to be an EP, but turned into an album at the request of fans of the band. It is named âDullardâ after Willâs first band, which took its name from a Strong Bad Email (www.homestarrunner.com). The album was officially released in the Spring of 2005.
