Leif Kolt was born December of 1981, in Petoskey, Michigan, a small town in the frigid northern part of the state. Growing up he was painting and drawing constantly, and can recall the first time he recorded his own voice onto a small tape player with a built in microphone. In high school, Leif learned to play guitar, began writing poetry, and discovered psychedelic drugs, delving deeper into his artistic development.

It wasnât until 1999, his freshman year of college, when he began to freestyle rap, and landed a co-host position on WUPX, a college radio station in Marquette, Michigan. This is when he first developed his thirst to perform, and ultimately, where he honed his lyrical skills. That same Christmas Leifâs mother purchased him the most important gifts of his life; a microphone and PC recording software. Within months he had recorded his first âalbumâ, Adamâs Eve, and began circulating CDâs to friends and family. Over the next 4 ½ years, Leif started playing live shows under the ultra creative alias, LEIF(kolt), and produced several other collections of music; Definition of Is, Little Art Robot, and Melancholic at the Meat Wagon.

By the time he graduated in late 2003, Leif had decided that he wanted to continue making music for the rest of his life, and upon returning home to Petoskey, produced his first major indie release, Chaotic Neutral, which, in an area flooded with cover bands and conservative jazz groups, was extremely well received throughout Northern Michigan.

In 2005, Leif relocated to San Diego, California. And, after two years in the studio, and one scrapped album attempt he is poised for his most important release yet, Spiders and Widows, a 14 track ode to the parasitic side of human nature. With a charismatic live performance, dark sense of humor, and energetic production style, LEIF(kolt) has defined himself as one of the most interesting artists yet to be discovered by mainstream media, and is defiantly a musician to keep your ear out for.
