Sean âAmazonâ Woodhouse is a producer, songwriter, recording engineer, and C.E.O of the Jamaican recording company, Original Amazon Nuziks Recording Co, Ltd.
Mr. Woodhouse musical roots go as far back as in the days of slavery, when his fore-parents where musical slaves on plantations. Since then every generation of his family has produced a musician â his generation has produced himself, and his younger brother Louis Woodhouse who performs under the name, DADDY TEACHA.
Mr. Woodhouse musical journey started in England in the 1970âs when he left his very successful dental practice to establish a sound system called TURBO CHARGE. The sound system was very successful, and it established him as a selector and an operator. After years as turbo charged, Mr. Woodhouse changed the name of his sound system to AMAZON DIAMOND. However, despite the change of name, the sound system continued to be very successful. Mr. Woodhouse then ventured into producing his own dub plates for his sound system when he saw how the actual production of dub plates was done â and eventually taught himself record engineering and music production.
Mr. Woodhouse returned to Jamaica in 1991, and was inspired by a number of upcoming reggae artists at the time; Suga Minot, Ricky Chaplin, and Winston Hussey â to start his own label, and in 1992 he registered Original Amazon Nuziks Recording Co, Ltd with the Jamaica companyâs office, and in that same year the label released its first album entitled, WORLD OF AMAZON, and featured his stable of artist at the time; Ricky Chaplin, Hopeton Junior, Suga Minott, More Culture, Sterline Valentine, Singing Fish, Winston Hussey, Milton Sterline, Dr. Cabull Bird, and Mr. Woodhouse himself. The album went on to become a critical success with the only hit song being STRANGE THINGS by Dr. Cabull Bird. However, the album was a financial disaster because of distribution problems. But despite the problems with the labels first album, Mr. Woodhouse continued to produce roots and culture reggae music, and decided to stay away from the hardcore dancehall which was dominant at the time. From 1992 to 1996 Mr. Woodhouse produce artists who have since become some of Jamaicaâs most established â Willi Williams, Hugh Griffith, Suga Minott, Leroy Smart, Mickey General, Cedric Myton of the Congos, Edi Fitzroy, and Gregory Isaacs.
After 1996, Mr. Woodhouse took an hiatus from the music business for personal reason, but returned in 2000, and reestablished his label and produced more than 50 singles and two albums; AMAZON MOODS VOL. 1 & 2. And in 2005 he produced the critically acclaimed MISS CASSIE RIDDIM, and produced eight singles with his new stable of artist, and in 2006 produced MISS CASSIE ALL STARS VOL.1 compilation album. 2007 Mr. Woodhouse will produce a compilation Album entitled, AMAZON REBEL, and his debut album, entitled AMAZON RAW â both albums will be released in July of 2007, and available through CD Baby, and Super-D/Phantom Distribution.
