If youâre looking for music that sounds like the stuff Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, or the Eagles might write, give a listen to âOne For Buddyâ by Chuck Smith. Putting together a strong acoustic sound with some Midwestern rock gives his work a feel of that music you love listening to, but music that no one seems to be making anymore.

When asked about his musical influences, Chuck always laughs and tells people to sit down so they can hear the long story. âI grew up with a bunch of old Carpenter, John Denver, Peter, Paul & Mary, and Osmond records around the house. After listening to those, I felt like a whole new world had been opened up to me when I found out that the Beatles and the Rolling Stones had actually made records too. Iâve always joked that I grew up on the ABCâs of rock (Aerosmith, Boston and Cheap Trick), and Iâve always thought Tom Petty was one of the greatest songwriters Iâve ever heard. Along the way Iâd like to think that Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, the Gin Blossoms, and the Goo Goo Dolls had a little influence on me too. The old time country guys like Willie, Waylon and Hank have always been favorites that I listen to when I need inspiration. Iâve even been known to put on some Sinatra just to listen to that incredible voice. Put all that influence in a blender with my greatest respect for Buddy Holly, mix it up with my limited talent, and you get what I sound like. Hopefully, along the way some people like what they hear.â

As for this current project, Chuck says that when he got together with John Stevens to finally produce this collection theyâve been working on for a couple of years, he wanted to do music that people could sit back, relax and drink beer to. Give âOne For Buddyâ a listen and see if heâs succeeded.
