Ants in the Sugar is the brand new final album by Winnipeg noise-pop band Cone Five. It is also the band's most stylistically and dynamically diverse offering, bringing an eight-year history to an adventurous close with everything from bluegrass-inflected lullabies to feedback-drenched, prog-inspired dirges. New on this album is the sharing of lead vocal duties by Matt McLennan and Leslie Oldham, a male/female pairing which adds even more to the overall feeling of stylistic and dynamic tension. Of its five-album catalog (the fourth album of which, Fond Of, cracked the Canadian campus radio top 50), the band is most pleased with this release.
