The Elation Churn is a solo project I began in the 1990's as an outlet for song ideas and sounds I could not include in a gigging band. I had played in several alternative rock bands with some success, but was becoming more and more frustrated with limits on how to shape songs the way I wanted them. I guess I am a bit of a control freak and perfectionist. I love to hide away in my garage, alone with the machines and create music I always wanted to hear from others. Once I could devote my full efforts to the project, the ideas have not stopped flooding in. I am a study in musical paradoxes which has gotten me into some trouble with former band mates. I am addicted to melody and structure just as much as sonically chaotic effects (sometimes used moderately while at other times, fully free form). I love the shoegazey droning and layers of legends in that genre as well as classic riffs from the the rock guitar greats. Each influence has seeped in at one time or another. Overall, the project is a blend of hard driving guitar centered music mixed with delicate and atmospheric layering.
