Details:
Born and half raised in and around Clarksburg West Virginia, Gary has played guitar and sang since the age of 8. In 1963 he met world class fiddler, Gordon Terry, who was part of the Johnny Cash Road Show. Gordon allowed Gary to work his outdoor park, Terry Town, near Loretto Tennessee. At Terry Town, Gordon brought in big name Nashville talent every Sunday. While there, Gary met Tompall and the Glazer Brothers. It was then that Chuck and Jim Glazer produced Garyâs first demo session. In 1966 Gary worked his first road job in Shreveport Louisiana with Jimmy Payne. Shortly after that, Gary worked with Gordon Terry as part of The Johnny Cash Road Show. Upon leaving Cashâs Road Show, Gordon took Gary with him. It was then that Gary performed various package shows - as they were called in those days. He worked such venues as the Golden Nugget, The Longhorn, Panther Hall, Randyâs Rodeo, The Palomino Club, various European locations and auditorium shows with some of the biggest names in country music at the time; Tex Ritter, Marty Robbins, Ray Price, Slim Whitman, and Charlie Richâ¦just to name a few. Later, Gary parted ways with Gordon and went on his own and worked the Holiday Inn circuit. Then in 1982, Jimmy Payne produced a session with Gary resulting in 2 chart records: âIâve Been Out of Love Too Longâ and âEasy Way Outâ. Payne then did another session with Gary in 1986 that resulted in the 1987 chart record âIâd Know a Lieâ. Through the years Gary has pursued his love for music and in 2007 he released his independent album, âHalfway Betweenâ. This album credits Jimmy Payne for writing 4 of the tracks as well as producing 8 tracks. Gordon Terry is also credited for producing 11 tracks. The album is a product of the hard work and creativity of several artists and Garyâs salute to some of his influences such as Ray Price, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Marty Robbins and Jerry Lee â Worlds Greatest Showman. We ALL are a product of everything we have ever heard.
