User tags: folk modern, jazz world fusion, mp3 album
Special duo recording by these two singular artists featuring original songs, strikingly original versions of Irish traditional songs and two songs by Bob Dylan.
10 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, JAZZ: World Fusion
Details:
This CD is something of an overlooked gem in the output of these two genre-spanning artists.
Lindsey Horner, a native of New York who spent many of his formative years in Dublin, Ireland, began playing in the band of Susan McKeown a native of Dublin, Ireland who is spending many of her formative years in New York.
That band, The Chanting House, created a sensation and is credited with being part of the movement bringing Celtic music into the 21st century.
On this CD, every sound heard is played by either Lindsey or Susan with Lindsey playing acoustic bass, bass guitar, whistles and bass clarinet and Susan singing as well as playing bodhran and shakers.
Some of the songs are by Lindsey, some by Susan, two are by Bob Dylan and all, including the traditional material, are arranged in strikingly original manner by both artists. One song, the dark ballad Fishamble Street, was a collaborative effort with an assist from beyond; the words coming to Susan after a gig the two were playing and the music coming to Lindsey in a dream the very same night.
The two also produced another duo record of different character called "Through the Bitter Frost and Snow". Susan McKeown and The Chanting House recordings include "Bones" and "Prophecy"
