When asked "Who Is Jay Weldonâ? "Philly Stand Up" for the 24 year old hip-hop-preneur from the streets of South Philly. Jay Weldon is the unsigned hip-hop artist/producer who sold more than 50,000+ units of his independent releases â-âThe King of The East Coastâ featuring Beanie Seagal, Camron, Eve, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Lucky Luciano and Ace Leone, âWho Is Jay Weldonâ, âMy Wayâ, âPhilly Stand Upâ, âMitchell & Ness Laced Meâ, and âThe City Is Mineâ which landed the Philly Native a lucrative endorsement deal with sports apparel powerhouse Mitchell & Ness. How did an unsigned independent hip hop artist lock down a major endorsement deal? Perhaps the answer lies in the 2006 Hip Hop Awards Billboard featuring Jay Weldon towering over highway I-95 North or perhaps the guerrilla marketing & promotion campaign Jay Weldon purchased that was advertised on the back of every major bus line, bus stop and subway throughout Philadelphia which caught the eye of of Mitchell & Ness President & CE0 Peter Capolino. Jay Weldonâs shrewdness as an entrepeneur was displayed by his ability to broker deals with local retailerâs Sam Goodys, Best Buy, FYE, Armands etc. for shelf space to sell his Lpâs and mix tapes alongside hip-hopâs major recording artists. As Jay explains âWith my product flying off the shelves along side artist like 50 and Lil Wayne I kept with the wall street strategy. Use the revenue from the sales to reinvest in myself. Retailers donât care if Iâm independent, its all business. All I had to do was show them the money. So I made it happen âlegally.â Jay Weldon's street buzz and endorsement deal led to an invitation to compete in MTV's MC Battle held in New York City. Although Jay's off the top delivery pushed him thru as a finalist in the top three he was disappointed not to be crowned #1. However, Jay Weldonâs "By Any Means Necessary" philosophy parlayed his MTV exposure as a stepping stone, not as a defeat. Keeping on his grind Jay linked up with producer Qwest Love from The Roots and wrote âPhilly Stand Upâ. The single blazed and became the anthem & title track for the Philadelphia Eagles at the 2004 Superbowl held in Jacksonville, Florida against the New England Patriots. Jay Weldon landed a pre-show performance charting the single to #1 in Philadelphia and placing âPhilly Stand Upâ in heavy rotation at every major radio station in Philly's tri-state area. As a follow up to the success of âPhilly Stand Upâ Jay Weldon decided to release another theme-based single for the Philadelphia 76âers entitled âThe City Is Mineâ which he premiered and performed at The Wachovia Center for the Philadelphia 76âers âvs- Miami Heat. Jay fostered his relationship with The Eagles & The 76âers and continues to perform the cityâs anthem with both teams. Jay Weldon's success and indie sales led to an opening performances for Styles P and a self financed 25 city national tour from New York to California. So âPhilly Stand-upâ for Jay Weldon. There's no doubt "The Time Is Now" --the title of his forthcoming CD. visit www.MitchellAndNess.com C1 Management
