Details:
ââ¦.. I never really knew John Verity before this evening and we still havenât really spoken, but I came away feeling like heâs an old bosom buddyâ¦
He has that effect on you, this laughing gnome with a voice like the whispered affection of angels.
Go see him, youâll be impressed, honestlyâ.
David Galbraith â KERRANG!!
JOHN VERITY was born and educated in Bradford, Yorkshire, and began his musical career in the early 1960âs playing in bands in his native Yorkshire & beyondâ¦
By 1969 John was living and working in the US, with the first ever line-up of the John Verity Band doing prestigious support slots with many of the big names of the day including Jimi Hendrix, Mountain, Canned Heat & Janis Joplin.
On his return to England in 1971, John secured a contract to record his first solo album for ABC/Probe records, 'John Verity Band', which was released in the spring of 1972.
Whilst on tour promoting the album, JV was spotted by Rod Argent who was looking for new lead vocalist for his band following the departure of Russ Ballard.
John eventually joined Argent in 1973 and there followed a period of intense recording and touring until the band decided to come off the road in 1976.
Argent never did go back on the road, and decided to disband, at which point John became involved with various new projects both as Artist & Record Producer.
First of all along with Bob Henrit & Jim Rodford from Argent, he formed Phoenix, which soon signed to CBS records. The band recorded 3 albums & toured Europe before disbanding amicably when Jim Rodford joined the Kinks, and John & Bob joined Charlie to record an album with RCA Records.
John produced the Phoenix albums, & Charlie album as well as the first Saxon album and Motorhead sessions during this time, and decided to divide his time between session work and record production....
JV missed the excitement of live work though, and soon re-formed the John Verity Band.
Since then, in addition to his work with the Band, John has been gigging & working in recording studios throughout the world, producing, playing guitar, or singing with diverse acts including Motorhead, Tank, Ringo Starr, Russ Ballard, Colin Blunstone, Mike Berry, Dave Berry, Brian Connolly, John Parr, John Coghlan, The Searchers, Mike Rutherford (of Genesis), Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Zombies, & Michael Schenker â just to mention a fewâ¦
BOB HENRIT
Like one or two others of his generation Bob Henrit began his musical life in a skiffle group. Upon leaving school his ex-next door neighbour, one CLIFF RICHARD, was instrumental in him getting a gig with ADAM FAITH. This lasted through five years and several hit records.
Bob was soon back in the studio recording âConcrete and Clayâ which was a tremendous success around the world for UNIT 4+2 whilst waiting for his next band ARGENT to get its act together.
Several million records and many gruelling tours later PHOENIX rose from the ashes of Argent and in turn became CHARLIE. During this period Henrit made records with many punk bands whose drummers couldnât cut it in the studios, as well as several recording stints with LEO SAYER, RUSS BALLARD, RINGO STARR and ROGER DALTREY.
PETER GABRIEL left GENESIS and PHIL COLLINS invited Bob to join the band but contractual obligations would not allow this whereupon he played in New York with AC/DC, toured and recorded with IAN MATHEWS, MIKE RUTHERFORD and RICHIE HAVENS before DON McLEAN engaged his services for a couple of years.
Having played on solo albums for DAVE DAVIES he came to the notice of RAY DAVIES who invited him to join the KINKS. Umpteen albums and many World tours later The Kinks were inducted into the Rock ânâ Roll Hall of Fame. In 1995 Henrit achieved a unique ambition playing at the Hallâs inaugural concert in Cleveland alongside the likes of CHUCK BERRY, JAMES BROWN, BRUCE SPRINGSTEIN and just about anybody whoâs anybody in Rock ânâ Roll.
In 1992 Bob Henrit received the coveted âIVOR NOVELLO AWARDâ for services to music.
