TheColorGray is a blend of straight forward rock with an edge and positive energy. The three members create a powerful sound and define the phrase "power trio". Driving guitars melodious vocals and tight rhythms communicate clear messages. Conversational yet poetic, the lyrics speak of serious issues and feelings without being excessivly disturbed or artificially weighted. All three members came together through chance meetings. Cason Clifton(drummer) first met Chris Hawkes(vocal/guitar) in the "music dorm" at The University of North Texas. "I heard him jamming with another drummer down the hall and I wanted to play! I stepped in a borrowed my neighbors kit." Chris-"He came in and started laying down a beat and I was floored! His sound and 'feel' meshed so well!" As romantic as it sounds their first interaction with each other was strictly through music! After performing and recording for nearly a year with fill in bassists, the duo found their final member. Jake Baxter(bass) was approached by Cason for help on an assignment while seated next to him in a class at UNT. Through their conversation Cason mentioned his bands need for a bassist. Jakes response "Cool... I play bass." Following a couple weeks practice together the group started playing original material under the, handed-down, name "Redtag". After over a year performing with the same name once used for Chris's highschool band, the three decided to change. Marking the new maturity, direction and significance of the line up. "TheColorGray" is a name that describes an identity. A combination of the separate qualities meeting in the middle for beautiful result. A common goal and affinity to reach it together.
