IN BRIEFâ¦â¦
In a pre- CD era this storming cover of Crushed Butlerâs âItâs My Lifeâ would have been perfect on a 7 inch single as killer A-side, with â25 Years From Nowâ as the mellower, melodic B-Side. But lets not get sentimental. Just download both tracks from Apple I Tunes, turn up the sound system, forget the dayjob, and experience a small but priceless jewel of rockânâroll history.
READ ON AND FIND OUTâ¦..
in 1981 UK punk band the Accelerators broke up after 4 years and over 400 gigs in one of the most explosive eras of rock music. Guitarist Kathy Freeman penned the prophetically named â25 Years From Nowââ about her feelings on the split.
The song lay dormant until Kathy (by then based in Berlin) realised almost 25 years HAD gone by. She persuaded ex-Accelerators drummer and lifelong friend Brian Damage to pick up his sticks again for a reunion recording of â25 years From Nowâ, in 2006. The recording would be at Bill Leachâs analogue studios near Liverpool. Kathy decided to also record underground cult classic âItâs my Lifeâ (cut live by seminal pre-punk band Crushed Butler in 1969 and recently re-released ) Besides kicking serious ass, the lyrics resonated strongly, and the drumming seemed custom made for Mr Damage.
Despite no rehearsals for 25 years, both songs came out rocking, and with their own powerful identity, further enhanced by a second mix from Kathyâs music partner Rob Raw in Studio 88, Berlin.
Then a chance meeting with former Crushed Butler member and beat luminary Darryl Read led to him hearing - and digging - the Freeman/Damage cover of âItâs My Lifeâ. He promptly had it uploaded onto Crushed Butlerâs official MySpace site and proposed wider distributionâ¦.
*THIS RECORDING DOESNâT EXIST AS A PHYSICAL CD AT THIS TIME.
