As the title implies, most of the inspiration for this project comes from my own family. It was recorded before my parentâs 60th wedding anniversary and âWALTZ FOR MARGARET AND BUDâ was played at the actual celebration.
In addition to recording my own compositions, I wanted to pay respects to some of the great pianists who have influenced me as well as countless other musicians. Bud Powellâs âWAILâ; Thelonious Monkâs âREFLECTIONSâ and Ray Charlesâ âDROWN IN MY OWN TEARSâ were chosen with that purpose in mind. I was fortunate to be joined by some of Torontoâs finest players for this July 2003 date â hope you enjoy listening to the results.
