Matthew Christopher Davidson is a relatively undiscovered west coast musician and producer who makes the craft of songwriting look easy. Drawing on diverse influences ranging from Daniel Lanois to Paul Simon, his music finds an easy nest in the ears of those who love, say, Death Cab and Sufjan Stevens, but actually ranges all over the style-map while maintaining a unique and consistent sound throughout the album. The music really does speak for itself, and eloquently at that. Born and raised in Victoria, Matthew has enjoyed a reluctant, unsolicited sort of success. He has been sought out as a collaborator by other artists for years, whether as a songwriter, producer or studio player. His instrumental music has been featured in local indie films; he has written songs for local Canadian Idol runner-up Lindsay-Anne Bain; he was hired as a musician and producer for former Reunion Records artist Jill Paquette; he has done studio sessions for the Zomba-signed JAKE. He has sat in for local acts such as Vince Vaccaro, Black Tie Social and Porchlife (all friends) over the years and has turned several others down. "It's been kind of hard to find the right fit," he confesses wryly. "But I've had fun in the process, and it's been very refining for my own music." Matthew's album, "The Waiting Place", came out with a bang 3 years ago and has been steadily gaining followers ever since. He is currently in the process of producing a new EP.
