Details:
"Mister Fusty" is the brainchild of Rob Gibson, of Whitley Bay, England. An electronic music project that has so far produced 1 album, an EP and a soon to be released new album, "Sparkle Darkly".
Mister Fusty's music is uniquely hard to pin down to one genre. It's part pop, part ambient, part trip-hop groove and is probably best described by it's maker as, "insanely catchy soundtrack music ."
Rob has tinkered for many years trying to come up with a distinct sound of his own. He's always had musical ideas in his head but it wasn't until computer technology became more advanced and user friendly that he could put these musical ideas down. With a one-man-band approach Rob started constructing songs in 2006 with a few to making an album.
With 14 songs completed Rob was ready to release his first album under the pseudonym of Mister Fusty, called "Honest Blundering."
After this release and an EP, "Temple Bruer", Rob immediately started work on ideas for a follow up. He got a handle on recording techniques a bit better and started looking for new sounds. As a follow up Rob wanted to advance the style and be a bit more particular about the sound.
"I spent twice as much time on the second album because it's natural that there should be improvement and also once 'Honest Blundering' had gone out I wanted to change parts of it, but it was too late. I was caught up in the excitement of releasing a record so I just kinda threw it out there."
"With the new one it's got to be right and I've got to be 100 happy with it before it flees the nest!"
The new album, released this year, is called "Sparkle Darkly" and contains 12 tracks of memorable, quirky and mostly mellow electronica.
Rob speaks of his influences, "modern musicians that inspire me are guys like The High Llamas, Stereolab and Badly Drawn Boy, with the latter it's the lo-fi bedroom studio ethic - that anyone can have a try at making good music without a massive budget - that inspires me. With the likes of the former it's their mix of electronic and acoustic that I go for and that I try also. My biggest influences melodically are the likes of masters like Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach, their wonderful use of chords and harmony is a constant inspiration."
