The No No's

"Tasmanian Psycho-Surf-a-Billy"!

After forming close to two years ago, Hobart band The No Nos have been steadily gigging around Tasmania and Victoria.

The band formed with two things in mind - to have fun, and to make music they wanted to hear. The three members- vocals and guitar Dave 'Edo' Edmondson, and the Ewington brothers Rohan on bass, and Duncan on drums, decided (even though the brothers hadn't played their respective instruments for over 12 years) that it had to be done. So they scrounged up some crappy gear, dusted off their amps, found a basement to play in, and started relearning their instruments - The No No's were born!

With having such a diverse range of influences and an original sound, the group developed a style that they've coined as 'Psycho-surf-a-billy'- which is a little bit punk, even more rockabilly, and a whole lotta rock'n'roll!

Most notable influences include Melbourne's hard touring Rockabilly band Wild Turkey, The Exotics and Intoxica, veteran Psychobilly style setters The Cramps, 70s punk, 60's Surf and Garage rock. Thrown into the mix is the love of a good bit of twang, the taste for the macabre and everything that's creepy and crawly.

Since playing over 60 gigs (in under a year) in all manner of venues, including aboard a ferry in the middle of the Derwent River, deep in the bush, on the back of a truck, in a rural football club, and at skate parks, along with all the well known pubs in southern Tasmania, they've proven to be open to where, and who they play to.

Well recieved by all ages and musical tastes, the band has just recently toured Victoria including a show to a full house at the world reknown venue - The Espy. The No No's have pulled record crowds at the Trout Bar in North Hobart, as well as playing with Aussie legends Zombie Ghost Train, The Bone Daddies, The Detonators, Mental As Anything, Sydney City Trash, The Go Set and The Angels.

Recently they have received critical acclaim in Buzz Magazine, Sauce Magazine, an interview in Togatus, The Mercury Newspaper, and are to be featured in two upcoming movie soundtracks - UK zombie flick "Hellbilly '58" and Volcom Australia's skateboarding dvd "Let's Live".

In the not so distant future The No No's plan on further touring to northern Tasmania, as well as leaving the island again to tour Melbourne, as well as Adelaide, Sydney, and to hit Brisbane in August for the sounthern hemishphere's biggest Kustom Kulure festival - Greazefest. Then the world!

Just as long as they're having fun, and people are having a good time shakin' their asses, they'll keep doing what they're doing.
