The talented Phillip Martin is diffusing smooth jazz across the genres. His unique style and fresh sounds are inviting to all and will no longer be âjust wallpaperâ, says Martin. His newly, soon to be released CD, âPride and Joyâ truly shows his drive and desire to share his creations with the world. â Pride and Joyâ is an amazing mix of soul and smooth jazz that pulls you into Saxtime with much Saxappeal. He was given plenty of room on âPride and Joyâ to deliver his own expressions and style. George Benson says Phillip is âsomeone to watch out forâ¦â and Jeff Lorber adds, âPhillip's music has the energy of a live club recording â¦sadly missing from most smooth jazz artists these days.â Lorber also added his special touch on the keys on the song âThe Wayâ from Phillipâs first CD âSaxappeal Special Editionâ. At the early age of nine, the Indiana native first heard his bellowing wails of the alto saxophone and immediately knew this would be his destiny. Martin demonstrates a natural ability for playing and creating a sound that is much stronger than the normal melodic music heard before. His compositions range from powerful blows to sweet and subtle emotions. Gauging by his experience and professionalism, you'd never guess saxophonist Phillip Martin is only in his early twenties. He was introduced to the saxophone by the Florida school system. Unlike many other children his age, he picked up the sax with ease. At the age of fourteen, people started to recognize his talents. After a couple years and many hours of practice, Martin became the leading soloist of The South Plantation High School Jazz Band and All State Jazz band member. Through the admiration of his peers and accolades he was given the nickname âSax Man.â He then went on to play for University of Central Florida. During this time he was invited to play with artists such as: Grammy winner Sam Rivers, Grammy nominee Kirk Whalum, Sunnie Paxton, Davonda Simmonds, and Sisaundra Lewis and the Sounds of Soul.Wes Hamrick and just to name a few. After enjoying the success from the sales of his first album, âSaxappealâ, and receiving a biology degree from the University of Central Florida, Martin has been hard at work completing his degree at Howard University College of Dentistry. When this new CD âPride & Joyâ is released worldwide on October 9th 2007, you may want to call him âDr. Phillip Martinâ. As if these achievements werenât enough, Martin is hard at work promoting his upcoming release, performing at various Jazz Festivals and venues, including main stage at the St Lucia Jazz Festival. His dynamic performances and passion for the music makes all of his hard work well worth it. âGod gave me a gift and I am just grateful to be given the chance to show my music to the world,â Martin says. âI am not trying to recreate it, but just create an edge.â in partnership with CDbaby User tags: Votes: Reviews: Review it!
