My musical career in addition to recording has included the Broadway stage, television, clubs and cabaret. New York City is both my home as well as the venue for much of my performing.
My Broadway and off Broadway work includes the following shows: âWalk Down My Streetâ, âJesus Christ Superstarâ, âThe Me Nobody Knowsâ, and âMowgliâ.
My nightclub and cabaret engagements have included gigs at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, the RCA Rainbow Room, the Blue Note, the Iridium Jazz Club, and Roseland. The following New York Post review by Bob Harrington captures in writing what I strive to accomplish in my music.

Low-Key approach from breezy Bailey
Cabaret review by Bob Harrington
Known for its festive, party atmosphere on weekends Oh Johnnyâs takes on a completely different ambiance when jazz-oriented Roy Bailey sits at the keyboard. With his light breezy voice and moody material, Bailey specializes in lovely, low-key musicality.
Baileyâs sets glide along in graceful progressions. Heâll take a pop tune like âThis Guyâs In Love With You,â drastically rephrase it, and come up with a sterling jazz version. A mellifluous âYou Took Advantage of Me" melts into a soft, easy revision of Cole Porterâs âI Get A Kick Out of You.â
Flowing chords characterize his rendition of âJust One Of Those Thingsâ and a masterful jazz instrumental of âNight and Dayâ reveals strong passage work and an innate sense of the passion in Porterâ music. He breaks the phrasing of Mitchell Parrishâs âSophisticated Ladyâ in unexpected places charging it with sudden halts followed by bursts of energy.
And while heâs basically a jazz stylist, Bailey understands the emotive underside of his selections. His heartfelt interpretation of âBallad Of The Sad Young Menâ wrings out every mournful nuance. With his gentle touch and ethereal voice, he creates an elegant, beautifully musical evening.
My CD âSongs From A Gramercy Park Saloonâ which debuted on the Joe Franklin Radio Show elicited this on-air response: "Whether behind the piano or in front of a big band, Roy captivates audiences with his unique blend of jazz and retro-pop".
This CD was co-produced with Frank Boesch. Frank is also a composer, and his unique mellow musical talents are featured through out on bass, drums and guitar. Especially on 'Moonlight Becomes You'.
Other excerpts from memorable reviews are as follows:
âAt Club Casablanca, NY, Roy Bailey on piano and vocals opens the evening with some excellent song stylingâ.
VARIETY
Back Stage proudly announces the recipient of this yearsâ âBistro Awardâ- Mr. Roy Bailey.
BACKSTAGE
âAfter only five minutes on stage, Bailey has the audience right where he wants them and keeps them there for his entire setâ.
VARIETY
âAt the Rainbow Roomâs salute to the Big Band Era, vocalist Roy Bailey truly brings you back to the eraâ¦young Bailey croons along beautifully as musical nostalgia fills the airâ.
STAR LEDGER
My television work has included a Manhattan Cable Network presentation of my self-directed and produced retrospective on Nat King Cole entitled âUnforgettableâ.
Additionally I have made appearances on the popular soap-operas, âSearch For Tomorrowâ and âAs The World Turnsâ.
Finally, my CD âChristmas in New Yorkâ features an original song of the same title. The co-producer, Howard Post is also an accomplished musician. His unique guitar stylings are a prominent part of this album's musicality. Bassist, Fred Weidenhammer, is additionally a major and invaluable contributor to the album. The other selections are some of my personal favorites that have endured the test of time. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy my renditions and that they may become a part of your Christmas tradition. And, don't forget to log back on for new upcoming CDs. If you like, you can write a comment or review of my music.
