Gentle-on-the-ear, here's an enjoyable MOR country-gospel talent thatâs new to me exhibiting a handsome set of well worked ballads penned by the likes of Jesse McReynolds, Hank Williams, Sandy Bond, Porter Wagoner and such. Clearly articulated with precise diction, the repertoire justly secures attention with its warm-hearted passion delivered with Connie Smith zest. Amazingly Don sounds so much like Connie, it seems untrue, but this portfolio of one dozen songs will do the singer no harm. Indeed, it could impress given adequate radio airplay. All tracks are comfortable in pedal steel settings and the repertoire is admirable, some familiar classic toe-tappers. The style is engaging and never âin-your-faceâ showing promise and potential.

Don Shortslef grew up in a home filled with music. He began singing and playing the piano at a young age. When Don was just 15 he gave his heart to the Lord and knew then that someday he wanted to use music to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

For twelve years, with his brother Dennis, Don ministered in music to a variety of Christian Churches across the country. Each of the brothers received a number of Christian Country Music awards and both were featured on the International Christian Satellite TV Program, 3ABN Presents (Three Angels Broadcasting Network). In 1998, Don was named National Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Gospel Music Association (CGMA). Don can currently be heard on Christian Radio programs across the U.S. and Canada.

Recently, Don has ventured out on his own. His latest CD, âWhen I Sing For Himâ, is a compilation of some of the old country gospel favorites that influenced his musical style and inspired his love for the Lord. The album also features his dad, (Harold âChubâ Shortslef) on the pedal steel guitar.

In March 2007, Donâs current single, A Vision Of The Cross, reached #4 on the New Christian Music (NCM) Euro Country Chart in England and can be heard on Christian radio stations around the world. To date, Don has recorded five CD albumsâthree of which were recorded with his brother, Dennis.

Donâs musical style includes a blend of Christian Country, Country Gospel and Contemporary Christian. In addition to his newest release, âWhen I Sing For Himâ, his solo CDs also include the 2005 Christmas Album, âO Holy Nightâ.
