With her aggressive stroking of the keys, witty lyrics, and the cooning siren that is her voice, Sherri delivers a truely cinematic and aurally visual experience, blending styles of jazz, rag, bigband, and orchestral.
16 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Piano Jazz, EASY LISTENING: Cabaret
Details:
Sherri was born Sherrilynne Sue Chung,
on April 2nd, 1979 in Queens, New York,
to minister parents, Edmund and
Carolynne Chung, and grew up in New
England, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.
Her musical background began at the age
of six when she started studying piano. A
few years later Sherri picked up the
trumpet and became a band nerd at
school. Around the same time her studies
in piano turned classical.
Sherri's childhood was heavily based in
music, playing the piano during church
services and numerous summer music
camps. In seventh grade she began
accompanying her school's choirs, and
later for musical productions in high
school. By the time she'd graduated, her
travels had taken her to Norway and
Sweden where she performed on piano
and sang with her church choir. Sherri
began writing music at an early age,
mostly songs for made-up musicals,
performed loudly in front of her mirror.
She was greatly moved by music for
movies, Michael Kamen's score for Robin
Hood: Prince of Thieves, in particular.
And it was due to the influence of this
soundtrack that her musical focus
became composing. Sherri attended
Jacksonville University and received a
Bachelor Degree in Music Composition
and Theory in 2001. Her college career
included piano, voice and guitar studies.
She won composition and accompanying
awards and gained experience in piano
teaching.
Presently, Sherri teaches piano full
time at The Jacksonville Piano Academy
and Schroeder's School of Music. while
performing original music with piano
and voice around the city of
Jacksonville. Her passion is writing
music and she has begun to pursue her
greatest aspiration, scoring for
television and film. Sherri's
composition credits thus far include a
rewritten score for the silent film
version of The Phantom of the Opera, a
number of shorts and a feature horror
film. Directors Sherri has worked with
include local talents Scott Abrams, Jeff
Larson, and Sam Thompson. Awards
include Best Original Score, awarded
by The New York Midnight
Movie-making Madness Competition,
for a musical short, Insomnium
Dementis (2006, Scott Abrams).
Additional compositional projects
include a number of art songs,
instrumental pieces and more popular
works, ranging from jazz to ragtime.
Sherri has produced two albums of
original music: Give Me The Keys
(2005), and No Small Thing (2007).
This latest album is the culmination
of her singer/songwriter career. It
incorporates piano, jazz, bigband, stride,
ragtime, and orchestral. This album is
very aurally and visually stimulating,
almost cinematic, as her lyrics are detailed, her voice dynamic and her melodies catchy and unique.
Additional performing credits include
musical accompanist for the comedy
shows at ImprovJacksonville, composing
music on the spot for their improvised
scenes, as well as a number of
performances with local musicians.
Currently...
Sherri's current projects include a
music library of production themes, All
The Music (musical, Scott Abrams), and
an impressive 30 minute orchestral
portfolio.
