underground folk legend simon finn is best known for his extraordinary debut lp 'pass the distance' released by the mushroom label in 1969. a unique, passionate and deeply personal work recorded with producer vic keary and featuring musical contributions from a young david toop 'pass the distance' came across like possessed and moody blend of syd barrett and roy harper. the album sank with barely a trace, finn seemed to disappear too and an enigma was born through word of mouth, bootlegs of the album and the huge sums needed to purchase an original copy. his public rebirth occured at the turn of the century when finn fanatic david tibet tracked him down in canada and subsequently reissued 'pass the distance' on his durtro label to great acclaim. a long overdue follow-up 'magic moments' appeared in 2005 (also on durtro) found finn mellowed by the years but still conjuring deeply dark and moving songs. and now in 2007 comes the stunning 'accidental life' finding finn reunited with keary and toop alongside main musical foil joolie wood (current 93) and with contributions from the likes of karl blake, danielle dax and rose macdowall. 'accidental life' features 16 tracks that find the songwriter at the top of his game creating surreal and hypnotically absorbing tales full of poetic melancholy that could find him tagged as a decidedly english leonard cohen or townes van zandt and should appeal to fans of the likes of simon joyner and nick cave. includes a 16 page booklet with lots of photos, lyrics and notes.
