At first listen, Steve Carroll sets himself apart as a dramatic songwriter and an accomplished guitarist with a passion for social justice and a desire to influence change. Carrollâs signature style displays a thoughtful use of introspective lyrics married with imaginative chord progressions and an experimental sound.

With two independent CDs already released, Carroll was back in the studio this past winter at 450 Records, located on Marthaâs Vineyard. While recording his upcoming LP entitled, âbride,â which explores themes of love and death, he has been featured in numerous showcases, adding to his performance experience which includes festivals, coffee houses and camps in California and throughout the southeast.

Carrollâs influences include artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Paul Simon, Jars of Clay, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. He also draws on folk, blues and pop styles, as well as classical and jazz. Through a combination of these guiding forces he creates an appealing sound of his own that draws in intrigued listeners.

âAs a whole, we, the society of privilege, myself included, have a responsibility to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Part of the way I try to do that is by shining an artistic spotlight on things that are hard to face, hard to be spoken of, but can find a place in song, a requiem for the lives we should live.â
