Yae High and Young Snead
FACT SHEET / Q&A
Their names alone are an interesting play on words; Young Snead and Yae- High. But most refreshing thing about these Mature Atlanta teenage Natives is what they have to offer to the south and the music industry. As seasoned vets in the corporate streets, these two young cats have already been through the ups and downs of the Atlanta Street Music Game. Where competition is high and the race is swift on who can deliver the hottest song that makes all âbow downâ at their game of rap.
Both artists were signed early to independent situations who at best gave them some notoriety in Atlanta. Yae High and Young Snead have already tasted the bitter sweet taste of trying to make it in rap the industry.
âItâs about time. They finally get usâ¦finally!â These were the words that exclaimed from the thoughts of Atlanta Natives Young Snead and Yae-High, when they met with Wesley Kelly of Grown Money Entertainment.
As long time friends Yae and Snead have been on one anotherâs radar for the past 10 years. âItâs funny how we discovered we wanted to be in this businessââ¦quotes Yae-High. Snead and I were kicking it with some of our friends chill-in on the block rapping and kicking lyrics back and forth. Our boys were like you guys are flawless with your technique and your delivery. You all should get more serious and pursue the music business. And that is basically how we fell into this game called Music.
The Man known as Young Snead:
Snead a veteran of the Atlanta scene had a previous deal with Big Cat Records but his talent was overlooked due to all the legal issues the label had with its owners and some of their chart topping artist. Snead had already established his street creditability as a new and up coming soldier in the game. But no one truly knew how deep the talent and passion that flowed through the veins of this ATL soldier.
At the tender age of 14, this straight A student experienced something he never knew he had, and that was the gift of lyrics. âSchool was always easy to me because I embraced the art of words and how to manipulate them. Fortunately for me, my teachers knew that I enjoyed word play and encouraged me to embrace my academic career head on. But I had so many skills in basketball and football that I never imagined that I would be rapping. I was always popular but it didnât take rapping serious until I began battling after school and hanging out on the weekends with my folks. âI knew whatever I was going to do in life I had to do it big. I got tired of watching my Mom come home exhausted from work. I tell people all the time that I have the best Mom that a young man could have. She has sacrificed so much to make sure I had everything that I needed. I made a personal vow that my Mamma would never work hard again if I had anything to do with itâ. The problem was, how? In my opinion the people think that Young people donât want anything out of life, I will admit that these days, most peeps in my age group think that the world owes them major props. However, I know for a fact that, why in the hell should anyone give you a hand if you donât have âshit to offer. Fortunately for me I had an uncle that I kicked it with like he was my father. So I was instilled a lot of wisdom at an early age. He taught me that as a man, especially a black man I got to go and get it. And when I get it I got to have a plan on how to get it and keep it. Quick money is going to come the same way it cameâ¦quickly. So make sure you keep your heart pure and keep a tight convo with the man upstairs and handle yours like a man so that you can take care of yourself and your family. That is why Grown Money Entertainment and I was a perfect match. I want my money to be grown even though I am a youngster. I have big, big plans for the future for my family as well as my community.
Wesley at Grown Money saw that I had something to say and that I was special. Thatâs was all I could have hoped for. Unless you been where I been and have suffered from lack of the basic necessities like me and my family. You canât say a damn thing to me. I know what it is to want, but I also have enough belief in myself to know that the street wasnât the answer. Which brings me back to what I said earlierâ¦HOW? How in the hell was I gonna get my family out the hood and make it without somebody somewhere throwing me a life line â¦hell in other words giving me a chance.â That is what GME did for me. For that I am grateful, loyal and I am gonna show you how a youngster takes advantage of a chance.
How would you describe your style? Well as soon as I open my mouth there is no denying that I am a southern artist. But it doesnât stop there. Due to the fact that expression is my passion and also my craft, my style is gonna hit you like wow did he just say that. I am still young so I would be crazy to say my definitive style has been mastered due to my versatility. So at this point in my career my focus is on my message verses getting you hooked to a gimmick that ain't me. Either way you will enjoy what I spitâ¦believe that!!!
Thoughts on Family: My family is very important to me. I have kind of taken on the roll as the Man of the house. I assume responsibility for my mother, my sister and my brother. I will use every cell in my brain to ensure that they get what they need and that we never struggle and or suffer ever again.
Thoughts on the Streets, todayâs Youth and the World as a whole: I have known and seen with my own eyes young people leave this world to soon chasing that dollar without a plan. That wonât be me. I refuse to let all of the gifts and knowledge I have inside of meâ¦be wasted on a quick lick. There is no togetherness with a lot of us young folks these days. Itâs like the world is split in two within society in general. I feel that in a perfect world its enough money out here for us all to be able to enjoy the fruits of your own hustle and eat goodâ¦hell eat great. And be at peace as well. The powers that be, want to keep so many poor people jacked up, locked up and make somebody daddy, brother and or uncle disappear forever. Hell whatever happened to the Pursuit of happiness for all men, freedom of speech. Does that rule only apply to the rich? Itâs like so many people are running around with no sense of direction. There is a lot of talent out there. But where a lot of my peers go wrong is that they are in a major hurry to get it and be doing it, because there is so much pressure and eagerness but they donât have a plan and that is where things get screwed up. You got all this pressure to be fly and paid and again, no one is stopping to sayâ¦damn I am only 19â¦itâs not my time yet. I have grind the right way the smart way to get it and then keep it. I want to do it all but I refuse to do it, if I am not taking the right steps to get to the next level so that I can keep it and I donât have to look over my shoulders wondering when somebody going to come and snatch it.
Future Business and Motivation:
I am motivated and influenced by a lot of hip hop artist doing it these days, but more importantly I am crunk over how they have taken their business to another level without losing sight on what is real. Artists like Martin Lawrence, Jaime Fox, Michael Jordan, Dave Chapel, Chris Tucker, 50 Cent, Mary J Blige, TI, and Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy have all taken their God given talent and turned it into a major vessel of income for themselves and their families. I call them my boys because I am setting my standards to be where they are in a very short time, not that I am jocking I am giving them their respect.
Thoughts on Women: Women today have it so hard. But you canât deny that a woman will handle her business, because she already knows that if she doesnât get it herself no one will. I can understand, because I have watched my mama pull all kinds of rabbits out of hat to help me and my siblings. I respect all women and love them all, big, lil dark, light I got mad respect for all of them. I love them and will never ever disrespect the ones that respect themselves. Young Snead got a place in his heart for you.
Who do you want to help first: I have a soft spot in my heart for homeless people. I am working on a foundation for the homeless. Cause itâs so easy to get in a crazy position fast. Most people think that the homeless has pissed their life away and they are in the position because they didnât handle their business. But so many people that I know are one paycheck away from being homeless. My foundation will treat them with integrity and respect and give the encouragement and the help that they need to get back on top. Most of the time that is all people need is a hand just to get back right without being made to feel like they donât have to kiss your ass to get there.
What do you live by? Can you describe it in a statement: Yes, Forget about youâ¦.Pay me? I refuse to let anyone prostitute my talent. You will embrace me and the are going to fucking pay me.
Yae-High- Donât let the name fool you:
Moved to Atlanta when he was 5 years oldâ¦considers Atlanta his home. Grew up on the West Side. Broke into the game of music at the tender age of 13. I know that I am different individual and I embrace that. It has taken me some time to point my energy and my natural aggressive elegance into the right direction. My mother used to tell me as a child that I definitely have an old soul chilling inside me. It took a minute for me to embrace that and now the world around me is embracing the phenomenon that is Yae-High. âI have seen so many talented people get caught up on the bullshit of the streets. Quotes Yae-High. But Wesley and the GME team came along in my life just in the nick of time. See the basic stuff that I was supposed to do as a child, I conquered quickly. I have been on the Honor Roll; I know what it is to be the star on a sports team. The basketball team at my school was pretty good. We dominated so many schools with our abilities, and I knew for a fact that I was a major contributor to our success. As a natural funny guy, the ability to speak was never an issue. I have always had the gift of gab, but what I lacked was an outlet to allow my ability to shine. That was when I married rap and committed myself to being a force to reckon with here in the streets of the ATL and the hip hop industry as a whole. The best thing I had on my side was a super supportive mother and my brother (Jovan). My mom is one of the first Queens that I will have in my life. I respect and owe her for a lot of the academic success that I have achieved thus far.
How would you describe your style?
I have more of what I like to call a swagger. Itâs a mix of old school and my excellent writing style all rolled into one. I try my best to be versatile while delivering cool and smooth messages that will stick to your mind like how gum stick to those new kicks that you pull out to wear to the club. I stick like glue but my delivering is smooth like butter.
Do People think that you are arrogant? Yes, but that is because they donât know me and only judge me by what they think they see. I am the coolest dude you will ever meet. But my mama told me along time ago, not to surrender my gifts to no one. So if you in the same room as me and you want to make yourself feel better by thinking that I am stuck up because you canât handle the ORA that is Yae-High. It ainât my fault. The difference between me and the next man is that I have been blessed to understand that the man above gave me power. And I would be cheating myself if I didnât use it. You know what they say if you donât use it you lose it. And I ainât in the business of losing sh*t! I love me. I love the man that I am becoming. The GME team is helping me embrace success. So if somebody that encounters me is a lil weak, I would suggest that they get with a team that is going to show him or her how to embrace their gifts verses hating on mine.
Who do you want to help first: After I get my family straight and settled, I have a soft spot for kids. In my life I have seen so many young kids with skills but their Mom and dads were so busy trying to keep the lights on and food on the table that they didnât take out the time to help them hone their craft. I am working on something that will give back to the hood in a big way. More than just a simple community center. But what I want to offer to everyone that walks in my door is a commitment. A contract that says if you keep your word to me, my team and I will keep our promise to you. Whether it be helping them develop better grammar and math skills, sports, acting, modeling. Its whatever. The sky is the limit. But if you invest in a child at a young age, I am talking like as early as the age of two, you are guaranteed a product of more than just their environment. Because if Mom and Dad arenât around on a consistent basis, you are going to get a TV breed, a want to be gangster, a want to be hot girl, but their minds are ready to handle what they think they see. As you can see I can go on and on for days. I am like Trick Daddy. Yae-High loves the kidsâ¦.(smile)
Thoughts on Women: I am a Woman magnetâ¦.states Yae-Highâ¦naaa I am joking. I respect women to the fullest. My mom is a soldier. If it wasnât for her sacrifices for me and my brother there is no telling where in the hell I would be. I canât wait to shower her with everything. As well as make some of her dreams come true. I know that she is already proud of me and I know she loves me. I am determined to have her in a chill out position ASAP. But other woman, I have love and respect for as well. All women are beautiful. No disrespect to all the women out there but the women from my side of town Slum, USA. I got a spot for them in my heart. Cause they struggle and do it alone most of the time but they do it with class and sophistication. See society loves to down a ghetto girl, yeah I know some are loud and can act off the chain, but that is only what the media shows you. The majority of my hood sisters have dreams too. But they can rest in the fact of knowing that Yae-High got their backs.
Future Business and Motivation? So many things come to mind when I think about this. I am going to act, model own subdivisions, retail stores, laundry mats, grocery stores, etc. The people that motivate me in this game are movers and shakers like Jay Z, TI, Keisha Cole, and Timberland. They are always taking their craft and their business to the next level. I like how they kick it and I plan on doing it big the same way.
Thoughts on the Streets, todayâs Youth and the World as a whole: For me, I personally trip out on how the America is the richest country in the world but yet we have people right here in our own country starving and living below the poverty level. The economy is constantly being raped but yet you see stuff on TV, stating that we gain a millionaire everyday. I know for fact that millionaire donât live no where near my side of town. I want my people to go back to the days where we would make sure everybody ate. I mean between the media focus on Racism, Africa, the war, hurting children and unemployment, you would think that somebody would stop and say hey, we can fix this if we do this, that and the other. I plan on being that someone. The youth is so busy focusing on the wrong competition. It isnât with one another. We need to be competing against the other. Who is the other, the other is that man and or woman who wont let you dream and win because of your social class or color. My age group is so busy worrying about doing it fast, instead of trying to be successful and make it last. That what counts in my book at the end of the day. How do you make it last? Whatever IT may be to you, Get a plan and make it work, but above all else. Make it last.
What do you live by? Can you describe it in a statement: Do you because I am going to do me! Get yours cause you can bet your life on it that I am going to get mine.
