Ben Pancy got his start in music at the age of six, when he began taking piano lessons and singing in the childrenâs choir at his local church. He began teaching himself to play the guitar in high school. He joined a local garage band as a drummer and quickly took up songwriting duties.

Following the break up of the band a month later, Pancy began writing as a solo artist and released a self-recorded EP in the summer of 2005. His first full length album, âSomething More Comfortableâ was released in the spring of 2006 and featured Pancyâs voice over his borrowed acoustic guitar. It received minimal airplay on local radio stations.

âIâve always hated that album,â Pancy said of âSomething More Comfortableâ. âWe recorded it in about an hour. That was all the time we could afford. Almost everything was done in one take, and thereâs no drums, no accompaniment, nothing.â

Ben Pancy, now a student in Electrical Engineering at Michigan Tech, began work on his latest album before âSomething More Comfortableâ was even finished. He assembled a small recording area in his basement, and recorded the music for âHello Blue Skyâ over a period of five months.

âHello Blue Skyâ features a full band behind Pancyâs cutting vocals, but every note on the album was played by him.

âI knew what I wanted [the music] to sound like, and I didnât want to have to teach it to other people. Besides, I donât have enough space to record all the parts all at the same time.â

Pancy is starting his third year at Michigan Tech in the fall, and says he is already writing music for another album.
