Details:
"Connor's restless energy and perfectionism ear-mark him, to my mind, as one of those talents to watch for on the Canadian music scene. His is a unique voice that will never be content with the 'ordinary' and I believe he has huge potential."
- Alex Browne - Peace Arch News
"He's intelligent, observant and imaginative - all talents that he has brought to bear in his writing." "The early results [of his solo songwriting] are thoughtful and provocative and he is only getting started."
- Tom Harrison - Vancouver Province
June, 2007
Connor McGuire, a Canadian songwriter, musician and poet, finished recording his first album days before his twentieth birthday. it was to be the culmination of what had already been a twelve year musical journey.
From the age of eight, and all through his teenage years, McGuire literally grew into his words and music - writing his first song at eleven. By the time he graduated high school, the Peace Arch News had dubbed his group, Anger and After, "... one of the foremost names of the new scene" and Tom Harrison of the Vancouver Province described their recordings as "impressively commanding".
When the trio folded in 2005, Connor found himself without a band for the first time since elementary school. He began writing solely for himself. The resulting songs were passionate and provocative, but had no place in the rock band setting he was accustomed to. He recorded the songs but didn't know what to do with them.
After a year of home recording, McGuire was encouraged by friends to release his new material online, and before he'd played his first show as a solo artist, he'd garnered over twelve thousand plays on his MySpace page. The melodic alt-acoustic songs that had started as a creative afterthought had now become his main focus.
McGuire is emerging as a gifted young storyteller. His lyrics weave colorfully through the lives of others, and he ties them to his own experiences with a voice full of conviction and nuance.
His many live performances, at places like Vancouver's Railway Club, The Backstage Lounge, The Media Club, The Cellar and other western Canadian venues, have developed a rapidly growing audience that connects deeply with McGuire's honest, personal and unaffected testimony.
Connor McGuire's first full length album, "Different After Dawn" was recorded at Whitewater Studio in Surrey BC and Liberty Studio in White Rock, BC, co-produced by Connor and his father, Ra McGuire (of 'Trooper' fame) and engineered by award-winning engineer Pat Glover (Paul Rogers, BTO, Bad Company). It will be released in the fall of 2007.
