Cris Gunther's journey begin's in the small, coal-mining of Beckley, West Virginia. Born on the cusp of Cancer-Leo into a family of Scottish, German and Cherokee Indian descendants, Cris first started singing in a Pentecostal church choir at the age of nine and later danced and modeled his way into local talent competitions and fashion shows. Growing up he observed his father have a successful singing career opening up for more than eleven country music stars and was introduced to the passionate world of r&b/soul music by his mother who was a very talented dancer and background singer. The need to entertain for Cris was so strong that by the age of eighteen he fulfilled one of his life long dreams and moved to New York City to begin his formal training as an actor. It didn't take long before he was discovered working in a restaurant by internationally renowned fashion photographer Steven Meisel and appeared on the pages of Italian Vogue in a story called, "The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeois." This luck of fate gave Cris the confidence to reconnect to his musical heritage and build upon the foundation that had been laid in his formative years. It was during his time in acting school that Cris first started writing poetry to express his deepest feelings and quickly found his words evolve into lyrics and melodies. This was the moment where Gunther realized that he had found his true calling. Cris explains, "As soon as the poems started taking musical form I became almost obsessive about writing songs. Nothing else had ever filled me with such purpose. I remember there was a period of time as a teenager when I was experiencing a lot of pain and confusion and music became my only refuge. It not only helped me understand the emotions I was feeling but also gave me the tools to rebuild my faith and to feel strong again. This was when I first discovered the power of music to heal, connect and transform people." Cris then used his life experiences as inspiration in developing his voice, sound and artistic vision. He dug deep into his heart and soul for the strength and courage to realize his potential and move forward with the belief that nothing was impossible. And now with the completion of his debut album, "Fall Into The Open", Cris Gunther is ready to share his hopes, dreams and passions with the world...
