I have always been an electric rock and roller, but it is very strenuous keeping a band together unless you have a run of gigs already set up. After much thought I decided to write a bunch of songs that were structured for solo playing. The songs on this album can be played in coffehouses or writer's nights. Although the bass, percussion and harmonies present in this album would be missing, they still sound complete presented this way. I had an unexpectedly good time writing and performing the songs for this album. "Dead Men's Feet" was inspired by something my wife said- I had just purchased several pairs of shoes from a thrift store, and they all fit my hard-to-fit feet as though I had personally broken them in. "Somebody must have died" was her comment. "Maria" spoofs people who like to think they are creative artists. "Rubber Wheels" is my commentary on modern life- I seem to be in my car a lot of the time. "Born to be Mild" is based on a passive-aggressive personality type that I ran into in college. "You Flip a Coin" represents a nihilistic worldview. "Trashman" was written in 1982, with subsequent revisions. It presents the fact that the truth always comes out and someone always knows who you really are. "I Threw a Rock" thumbs its nose at causality, and all the people who have accused me of being "one of them" just because I understand both sides of an argument. "Yin and Yang" presents a rather soapy romance- but it is strange how art imitates life imitating art (imitating life). "God Knows" denotes the angry end of an affair. "Tom" is as close as I can get to the real facts surrounding the death of an old friend, and "Fast Food"- well, that nugget I will just let you digest.
