In the summer of 2006 "Hussy Hicks" aka Julz Parker and Leeesa Gentz, flew into London as part of a world tour and last stop before flying home to Oz. Julz and I met and played together in 2003 and became good friends. A year later, after selling my camper van, I had enough money to record my first CD, "Kayla". Julz was both producer and performer on this project, at which point, I realised she was musically a genius. Julz arrived armed with a laptop, Protools and a guitar. My sitting room became a music studio for three weeks and we set about making this album. After laying down guitar and vocal lead tracks, I humbly watched as my fellow musicians created and recorded their own arrangements. This CD was created in sunshine with lots of basil and feta cheese salads, friendship and laughter. Backing vocals were recorded by Mandy Mayhew and Leesa Gentz on days when we weren't on the flight path to Heathrow!
Raphael White lay down his bass easy late one evening......and we had a glorious day with the talented, Tony Award winning musical arranger, Sarah Travis, on keyboard. Julz sat with her laptop capturing all the inspirations, including Mandy on a baby accordion. Julz played lead and bass guitars, drums, egg and washboard....and then flew home to Oz with the raw product. After many emails bewteen Brentford and the Gold Coast, mixes were finalised and the master copy arrived in London. Julz had worked her magic.
I was blessed to have these talented, creative musicians working on this album and I thank them with all my heart. I hope you enjoy the songs!
