For two hours each week, I have the privilege of enjoying an inspired collection of jazz selected by Mike Laatz for his Fine Music Radio programme â and now thereâs âSentimental Journeyâ, an hour-and-a-quarter of inspired playing by Laatz. From a sultry âMistyâ to a jump-bop âSummer Sambaâ itâs a smoky ride, with the 4am paean of âNtyilo Ntyiloâ a highlight â and the mashed âtaters original is a rollicking inclusion.

Itâs been a privilege to work with the wonderful musicians on this album. Andrew, Basil and Kevin are, in my book, the finest rhythm section in the country.
