Michael DiGioia (pronounced D-Joya) is the son of Italian immigrants hailing from Bari, Italy. Michael was born in Chicago and raised in Niles, Illinois, where his parents continued their Southern Italian traditions of homemade wine and tomato sauce. A struggling artist by the age of six, Michael enjoyed singing with his grade schoolâs glee club and painting backdrops for school plays. Eventually, his artwork was generously awarded by the Scholastic Arts competitions. By way of his artwork and theatrical set designing in High School (a graduate of Maine East in Park Ridge, Ill), he was introduced to the art of acting. At the age of 18, Michael left his hometown and journeyed to New York to study at the S.U.N.Y. Purchase Acting Conservatory, where he received his BFA. After college he appeared Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway, as well as in regional, stock, and dinner theatres throughout the U.S. and abroad. His career has ranged from classical plays to cabaret revues, while picking up a few awards and some memorable press reviews along the way (to view, go to www.m-digioia.com). His acting career has now expanded to film work and, in 2007, he was seen in "The Dawn Chorus" a selection at the Sundance Film Festival. Later this year Michael will be starring in two indy films, "Mother's Milk" and "Out of Service", both of which will be touring the film festival circuit. His debut CD, âMichael DiGioia: Another Look,â is an exciting and moving, 16-song celebration of Broadway and American Standards, recorded in two separate three-hour sessions (capturing a live, unadulterated quality).
