Milly Namukasa, born in Uganda, East Africa, based in England, United Kingdom. She is a singer, songwriter, actress and playwright.
Her musical background started early in school and college, where she won several awards. She started her acting career when she joined the renowned Theatrical company, Kayaayu Film Players on tours across Africa. In the nine years she was with them she got leading roles. During the 1980âs and 1990âs the theatrical company collaborated with the famous Music band Jimmy Katumba & The Ebonies, and produced stage musicals.
Milly launched her singing career in 1996 when she recorded her first album Empewo. She was inspired by her move to the UK from Africa. It is about relationships, work and hardships of living in a foreign land. She released her second album Ekikooti in 1998. This was a period when AIDS became a serious global issue. And this song was Millyâs way of contributing to the aids awareness message. Her third album Munonyeza was released in 2001, an album dedicates to life, death and money.
In 2002 Milly decided to put her music carrier on hold to go and study for a BA Hons degree in Design For Interactive Media with Digital Art at Thames Valley University. Milly has completed her degree, now she can go back to her music. Her new album will be out september.
