"Heavy Folk Rock" is a moniker once used to describe the unlikely musical blend and lyrics of Dan Lavorel. Beautiful, haunting pop songs mixed with folk and rock elements that make for some seriously catchy hooks you will find yourself humming to after only a couple of listens.

Born in California and whisked away to Europe at the ripe age of 2 months, Dan would cut his musical teeth in high school bands and songwriting while traveling Europe and living a quite unique childhood.

Leaning heavily on British hard rock influences and American folk songwriters his style was fashioned out of that dichotomy and give him his unique approach to songwriting.

Returning to the U.S to attend college in New Mexico, Dan would found the gothic rock outfit âMasqueâ and pay some serious dues in the bars and clubs from Texas to California. Releasing 2 independent albums, Masque would see a series of lineups before eventually folding in 2003. During their run they would experience some near euphoric evenings and help to earn themselves the epithet of the âDeserts undisputed kings of gothic rockâ, playing with such acts as Cleopatra Records âThe Wakeâ and RCA Records âThe Strawberry Zotsâ. Never being one to give up , Masque managed to outlast them all without ever being signed ! Finally relocating to the Bay area in 2001 the band failed to regroup with enough momentum and was disbanded in 2003.

Being the front man, singer, and songwriter for the group, Dan decided to branch out as a solo artist in 2005. Although a late bloomer, years of playing in less than desirable venues, facing innumerable obstacles and false starts, brushes with fame, and the possibility of success always at arms length away, Dan has proven stubbornly resilient if not resolute in his dream to write and create music.

After teaming up with drummer and producer Kerry Garloff they began recording and laying tracks for a solo debut entitled âAfter Darkness Lightâ , a fitting name and summary to the long road he has been on up to this point. Focusing on Danâs ability at conjuring up vivid imagery with his lyrics and blending rock influences into his storytelling, the album showcases his songwriting and vocal ability at itâs finest. He is currently making plans to tour and perform to promote the release of the album.
