Once in a while, yet very seldom does a singer-songwriter visionary come along with the talent and sheer musical magic of Freddy Herrmann. From the drum crashes of the anthemic "Sunday Morning" comes a warning about a life, and country as well as world out of it's control...and the refain, "I believe that love will save us from ourselves"...offering a touch of hope in a scary complicated world. The rest of the cd shines equally as bright...."Superfine" a tribute to Brian Wilson, the leader and casualty of the Beach boys career, is a beautiful, other-worldly song that seems to talk directly to Mr. Wilson in a hopeful and loving way. "Monster" is quite simply a song with a diverse application to any situation in our lives that gets us down. East coast-west-coast guitar pop has never been so beautiful. Ever. These three songs were written arranged and produced in California by the exquisite visionary Ray Peterssen of Raining notes Music(Rainingnotes.com) (an indie DIY label)It is hard to describe the last two songs without a tear. They are that beautiful. And deeply touched my heart as well. They don't make this quality of music anymore. Not really. The last two tracks were recorded in NYC at the famed Chun King studios in Chinatown. "Moonsong" is a plea for peace and stability in an oft-troubled life. It is a gorgeous song. "Midnight train" is a goodbye to love anthem which seems to summarize innocence lost and a solemn goodbye to love in music. I think personally this is one of the most beautiful assembly of songs I have EVER heard. (****** Six stars out of five)
