Details:
A myriad of experiences have come to shape Greg Jones into the performer he is today. Growing up in south central Los Angeles, Jones' childhood music training included plunking out the tunes playing on the radio as a favorite pastime. A natural performer, as a young man he earned a spot in one of the U.S. armed forces' best entertainment acts, Tops In Blue. He went on to study speech and communications at California State San Bernardino.
A disciple of Marshall Hawkins (a contemporary of Miles Davis and Roberta Flack), Jones regularly appears at the Idyllwild Jazz Festival. Jones' most recent success comes in profound form, as he has co-written a song to be recorded by legendary blues and folk artist Odetta. Odetta is an almost mythical figure in the blues and folk music genre, and a winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award from The World Folk Music Association.
Jones' first CD, For You, is an offering with an autobiographical theme, as well as a plea for world peace. Jones' second CD is due out later in 2006.
Regularly performing with Jones in the Greg Jones Band are singer-songwriter-recording engineer Terry Lawhon on guitar, Richard Lucas on bass, Doug York on drums, and James Pierce on trombone. The group has tremendous chemistry, and impresses audiences with their style and great vibes.
