Biography
Lois has matured into an internationally known singer and minister who is fast becoming an inspiration to other aspiring Caribbean artists. Her newly released debut album titled Hold Me has already been receiving rave reviews from musicians, fellow artists and critics alike. She is now being referred to as âGolden Voiceâ and many want to know who is Lois Commodore, where did she come from, and how did she to this point?
Lois was born in the beautiful island of Dominica and in the West Indies and felt the call of God on her life at the age of twelve. She had always loved music as a child, and as she grew older, her passion for music intensified. She wrote many poems which were later converted to songs. From then, the creative juices never stopped flowing.
She started seriously ministering in 1990 as the lead singer of a group called The Zion Bound Singers which comprised of her best friends. Although they had only an acoustic guitar their harmony compensated for the absence of other musical instruments, creating a sound that was unique. The Zion Bound Singers traveled to almost every city in Dominica and other neighboring islands such as Martinique; St. Lucia, Antigua and St. Vincent; ministering in crusades and local prisons with powerful servant of God Evangelist Peter R. Augustine.
Lois left Dominica in 1995 to pursue a medical career in Boston, Massachusetts. This move helped to develop her musical gifts and expand her knowledge of the music industry. She became a member of a contemporary American gospel youth choir called Power Praise established by Minister Joy Turner Hill (Potterâs House) and producer Leroix Hampton 111. Their style ranged from Contemporary Gospel, to Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop. They ministered at several locations in Massachusetts, surrounding states, rallies, concerts, and special community based events like Toys for Tots. They were honored to minister in the Symphony Hall with the Temptations, and at the Bay State Games and even before Senator Hilary Clinton at a fundraising event. Loisâ ability to sing both soprano and alto parts enabled her to participate actively in recording sessions for the group and other artists.
Later, she became a member of a Black / Jewish group called The Freedom Music Project with folk singer Perry Smilow. Lois learned to sing many Jewish songs which helped to expand her versatility. Their performances spanned from The Joslin Diabetes fundraiser, to Black-Jewish Seders organized by the late Lenny Zakim and participated in a studio recording with The Freedom Music Project and Noam Katz.
Loisâ abilities in the studio have matured over the years allowing her to assist in the studio on various projects such as Bobby Perry and RAIN CD âItâs All About Youâ.
She partnered with friend and former Power Praise Member Kevin Vetiac to record her debut album titled Hold Me. God inspired them to record an album consisting of their original songs. They have equally contributed to this project and are amazed at how far they have come, by Godâs grace.
Lois has founded two important endeavors: Love Word which is a Publishing/ Production Company which is geared towards helping other artists develop and publish their art, music and writing talents and the Soldiers of Destiny Scholarship Foundation in honor of her late father Benoit Commodore. The Soldiers of Destiny Foundation focuses on assisting underprivileged individuals from single parent households. Since Lois was raised in a single parent household by her father, her heart understands the challenges that individuals from a single parent family face. Loisâ mission is to be a light to the world, to share the gospel and to encourage other artists especially those from the Caribbean to boldly share their musical gifts with the rest of the world. God has called her for such a time as this. She has lived the words of her songs. This is the fullness of time for her ministry. She is prepared to fulfill her God-ordained destiny by bringing comfort, peace, and restoration through her music.
