LOCAL SONGWRITER RELEASES DEBUT PROJECT âTHREEFOLD CORDâ

FORT EDWARD â Brother and sister Mark Nicholson and Naomi Jones have announced the release of their first music CD, âThreefold Cord: A Collection of Wedding Gifts,â an album of original wedding songs written by Mark. The project was recorded by Paul Gibbs at Serenity Sounds Studio in Hudson Falls.

Simple melodies and tender lyrics paint the pictures on this one-of-a-kind album, while Markâs graceful piano and string arrangements set the backdrop. Naomiâs vocal harmonies sparkle, weaving through each duet and sometimes trading the lead with Mark as stories unfold that are at once timeless and fresh.

âThe first song was written ten years ago,â recalls Mark, 30. âA former schoolmate asked me to sing for her wedding. I wanted to give them something special, something memorable â a keepsake.â More songs followed over the years, each a gift to friends on their wedding day. âThe opening track, called âYour Friendâ, is the most meaningful to me,â Mark says, âbecause it was written for my wife at 5:30 a.m. on our own wedding day. As the first orange rays of sunlight spilled through the window of the church, I sat alone at the piano thinking of nothing but the beautiful bride I would greet in a few hours, and just wrote her a love note.â

Companionship and faith are the central themes of the album, revolving around the biblical allusion ââ¦weâre bound with Christ together in a threefold cordâ in the second track. We wanted to share the hope and the joy of intimate union, with each other and with the Supreme Other,â Mark adds. Even the tracks with no direct spiritual reference are irresistibly optimistic, capturing the moments and the eternities, the sensory and the sublime, the real and the reverie that is wedding day.

Mark and Naomi were raised in Fort Edward. Mark, his wife Susan and their two children currently reside in the town of Moreau. His sister Naomi and her husband Jeff live in Saratoga Springs, NY

Ten years ago, Mark Nicholson sat down at the piano and began tinkering with tunes and truths in an effort to express himself in song. Threefold Cord is the musical as well as spiritual and emotional culmination of these many years. Many of the songs on the recording are dedicated to good friends and carry more emotion in each song than most commercially-produced records.

The album opens with Your Friend â scintillating piano and Markâs expressive voice, simple and full of passion. Amazingly enough, Mark composed this gem the morning of his wedding. Here We Stand, a unifying commitment in song, could easily be called the title track with the memorable line: âWeâre bound with Christ together in a threefold cord.â Despite the fact that this is one of Markâs earlier songs, the harmonies are meaningful, the strings sweep and youâll find yourself humming the words of this classic long after the record is finished.

A luscious sax solo by Sue Rask unquestionably highlights Look At Us Now, a song of genuine reflection and thankfulness while Naomiâs velvet voice shines. Nothing In Between gives a slight change of pace with this upbeat, catchy and soulful gem full of complex harmonies.

Like an intimate conversation on a cool summer night, Take You There is a sincere and introspective promise of innocence. A delicate piano carries this piece forward with a deep, moving cello in the background. Mark solos in Together, an ardent pledge of endless love, his smooth voice echoing the intense emotion this mellow love tune brings.

Arguably one of the grandest songs on the album, Forever and Today is a spiraling duet powered by a strong bass line and a glimmering guitar, string and drum accompaniment. What better way to close this love-centered album than with His Holy Bride - a tribute to the holy marriage of Savior and Bride. Clarion vocals and piercing lyrics both anticipate and give a small taste of the Glory to come.

Threefold Cord, abundant with its anthems of fervor and feeling, is able to give that âsomething newâ that is not so new. Sacrifice, devotion and friendship â timeless and universal truths, all essential to godly love and all celebrated on this one-of-a-kind album.
