BIO
Mike wrote his first song during history class in the fifth grade. It didnât go too well: The teacher came up from behind, took the song and read it to the class. The song was about a boy that felt fairness played no part in life. The boy would shut his eyes, turn into an eagle, fly, and rise above the injustice. For the next week, Mike endured his fellow students running around with their arms spread out, pretending to fly. That same week, walking home from school, the history teacherâs wife picked up Mike. She apologized for her husband being a jerk. Said the song was beautiful, that it spoke the truth about fairness and injustice and that writers are the ones who should speak up about the wrongs in the world. That change begins with words, and people need to hear words. For the next 40 years Mike continued to write; problem was he never shared any of his work.
Mike has logged nearly as many miles on the oceans as he has on land. He has traveled and seen much, constantly writing about what has touched his senses and sensitivities. Four hundred songs, forty years later, and thanks to those close enough to convince him to share his amazing insight about whatâs real and whatâs not, Mike has released his first CD. This is music and itâs as real as it gets.
Just a man and his guitar, telling us how to look at the present through the eyes of the past and remembering that the present is just one day from being the past and the future. Thatâs a delicate balance. Our past, present, and future is up to no one but us. As individuals we shape our destiny.
Can we trust our government and corporations to really be concerned about our future? No, theyâre thinking about themselves, thinking about what else they can control, with little or no regard for much else than greed. We must learn to say no to media driven economics, we must learn to separate wants from needs and find a sustainable balance.
Mike walks the talk: The barn Mike built in 2001 at Bramble Creek Farms is solar powered. He and his wife are building the solar-powered tractor as we speak. They purchase equipment based on fuel efficiency. Their next project is converting a vintage VW bus to an electric vehicle (and donât get him started on the state of our government and natural resources.) They raise a chemical-free garden, have a small flock of pastured heritage breed chickens, two horses Oh, and the star of the show: Thatâs Dudley, the goat, on the CD cover. It just goes to show, you can teach an old goat new tricks
Mike and his work are more than just another CD for sale. His words and work come from his heart and give us all much to seriously consider. Although âNothing But The Truthâ is packed full of reality, Mikeâs unique way of combining humor and reality is simply pure pleasure. This is definitely a work to be included in everyoneâs collection.
