Details:
Deborah Alison started her career as a dancer she trained in Caribbean dance, African dance Modern, Jazz and Ballet. Her song writing and singing abilities were discovered by her cousin drummer Brent McPherson (Bunny), he encouraged her to write and took her into the studio to record her first track Propaganda Papers. Later her cousin Andy Castello well known composer and performer began collaborating with her and they have penned over a dozen songs together. Deborah performed recently at the first Montreal International Reggae Festival, she has performed throughout Canada and at the Rang Arts festival opening for Lazo and the Radicals.
Deborah is committed to working towards transforming our world. She is the
co- founder of a community organization called Why We Are here (www.whywearehere.com) she believes strongly in making a difference in our world.
Deborah is also an educator and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, a B Ed degree and a degree in Sociology. She views art as being political and she uses her art not only to entertain but as a tool for educating others. Her track 19 Times leaves us with the memorable line "an injustice to 1 is an injustice to all". Deborah has never been afraid to stand up for injustice, as an example she was elected to represent
70, 000 teachers across the Province of Ontario for the Elementary Teachers Union, she has never been afraid to speak for the silenced, and she has never been afraid to stand up for the oppressed.
Listen to her smooth seductive sound, underlined by a reggae baseline and you too will get to know the warrior spirit, that manifests itself through her work and the divine inspiration that brings us truth when we are free to create.
