The beginnings of No Fair Hearing originated when John Schwinn met Jon Feldheger while attending Inglemoor High School in Bothell, Washington, a suburb to the north of Seattle. The two quickly bonded over a mutual interest in rock music. Both had supportive parents who encouraged their sonsâ musical interests. When they met, Feldheger already had a beat up, red sparkle, Premier Drum kit, purchased from a friend of his brother a few months earlier. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Schwinn surprised his son with a brand new Fender Stratocaster guitar. Soon the two seventeen year-olds were jamming regularly, trying to emulate their guitar Gods: Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Cream and John Schwinnâs personal favorite; the legendary, but ill-fated Derrick and the Dominoes.

Several years later, while working at Dynacare Laboratories in Seattle, Feldheger met bassist Eric Sorenson. It was there Feldheger asked him if he might want to join Schwinn and himself for a jam session. At the time Eric was playing in two bands; a jazz band and a heavy metal outfit, yet the easy-going bassist found time in his busy schedule to jam with the two rockers. Right away they knew they were on to something. Their sound was different. It was heavy, loud garage music; but melodic - a psychedelic grunge sound that was unique.

Just before NFH set out to book live gigs and search for a record deal Feldheger was faced with a huge decision. He had been offered admission to the prestigious University of Southern California Physician Assistant program. Should he return to school or try to make it with No Fair Hearing?

âIt was a difficult decision to leave the band just as we were clickingâ, Feldheger says, âbut the economy in Seattle was in bad shape at the time and this was a once in a lifetime offer. I just couldnât refuse.â But No Fair Hearing was by no means through. After graduating in 2003 from USC, Feldheger began working as Physician Assistant in Los Angeles. During the summer of 2005, Feldheger received a one month vacation and headed back up to Seattle. Setting up in the living room of Schwinnâs apartment the band began recording their first record. The neighborâs complained but not before they had recorded enough material to complete the album. Since their music combined elements of hard rock and heavy metal music they decided to name the album âMetal Fusion.â

In an age where songs are set to exact cookie-cutter formats with click tracks, tape loops and monotonous techno beats the sound of No Fair Hearing is refreshing. There are no robotic hip-hop beats here. Instead you hear the dynamics of musicians playing by the skin of their teeth, pushing and pulling each other to higher levels each time they plug into their amps. If you grew up with, or recently discovered, garage rock from the mid-sixties, psychedelic rock from the late sixties, hard rock from the seventies, or grunge rock from the early nineties then I think you will find much here to enjoy.
