This beautiful CD introduces the listeners to the art of laureate of the All-Russian Competition, Rosconcert soloist, balalaika player Oleg Gitlin.
Oleg Gitlin is a famous, award-winning balalaika virtuoso who has performed in the most distinguished theatres and concert halls throughout Russia, Europe , America and Israel.
Born in Leningrad in 1951,Gitlin started playing the balalaika and grew fond of it already in his childhood when his parents presented him with the instrument on his birthday. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatoire with the renowned balalaika player Professor A. Shalov. In 1969 Gitlin came in first at the All-Russia competition of students of musical colleges (Ivanovo) and later continued his education at the Gnessin Pedagogical Institute of Music(class of Russian Artists ,Professor P.Necheporenko.) In 1972, being a student, he became laureate of the All-Russia competition of folk instrumentalists in Moscow. From that moment he started giving concerts around the country, Europe, America and Israel recording at All-Union Radio and giving classes.
In the vast repertoire of the musician there are pieces on folk themes, works by Russian composers for balalaika, and popular classical music.
Oleg Gitlin plays on a unique and exceptionally melodious balalaika, created by a world-famous balalaika-maker.
All the musicians working with Gitlin are struck by his industriousness. Every detail is important for him, each note should be perfectly impressive. The musician is on a constant quest for perfection and he is achieving the needed results.
Tracks1-8 present Gitlin playing to the accompaniment of guitarist Vladimir Tervo, laureate of the International guitarist competition in Havana. Together they created a number of original transcriptions of popular classical pieces, which gained new fresh shades due to the new instrumental sound.
Tracks 9-12 present the recordings to the accompaniment of the piano. Here you can hear works, which are not frequent in the repertoire of balalaika players because of their difficulty.
