To sum up: The Ostrich Farm began in the mid 90âs as an experimental hip-hop/funk/metal unit and released several cassettes and CD's before splitting up in 2001. They returned in 2004 as a âvirtualâ studio group with the cd âSupernatural Powerâ.
The next 2 years after that would be a mix of gigging, recording, and broadcasting . The now 5 members all had active solo projects and The O Farm became less of a band and more of a collective ââin the tradition of jazz maybe- where the gigs were a used as a testing ground for new ideas. Themes collided, old riffs were resurrected in new ways, lyrics and choruses changed nightly: It was often chaotic, but also inspired and it produced a wealth of material to draw from .
Needless to say the music is eclectic, incorporating the group's varied tastes- St. Mixâs world beats, NTTâs underground rhymes , Rus-Tâs punk poetry , Stashâs jazz and soul, Bionâs avant-garde weirdness- All are tied together by massive beats making them closer to mutant hip-hop than alternative rock, but easily appealing to both.
The songs are about surviving in the modern world.. Not surprising with the sessions squeezed in between work, kids, and life.. If it gets a little depressing, well thatâs the blues for ya. However there is also hope and even humor (Screaming Wombats on Acid??) because in the end fuck the system⦠We want to party!
