Living in Austin produced a decidedly "Texas" sounding first CD for Paul Eddy ("Frozen By Fire") with mixes of honky tonk, country, and folk, but heading back to the northwest meant heading back to his roots. As a young person growing up in Washington State, it was the inventive sounds of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Yes that first ignited the musical fire in Eddy. Strange combination? Not when you consider that all three focused on complex songwriting and arrangements that typically featured vocal harmony. And offshoots like XTC, Squeeze, and Jellyfish showed that you could draw from those musical forces and still create something new.
