A PORTION OF THE CD PROCEEDS GOES TO THE CHARITY "FEED THE CHILDREN"
To have a CD of these lullabies is a dream come true! I have always loved to sing, but I didn't begin writing songs until January 2005. Being a stay-at-home mom of three, lullabies just seemed a natural fit for me. I also wanted to write songs that seem like everyday life--rocking in the rocking chair, going over the day, and including God in it. So much of my relationship with my children is mirrored in God's relationship with me, so the ideas went together well. What I ultimately want is for even just one child to hear these songs, and during good times or any difficult times in his or her life, know that God is real and loves him or her no matter what.
I started recording the songs, a capella, on my home computer. I wanted to play the music to them, so with my brother-in-law's help (thanks Eric!) I bought an acoustic guitar, a Blueridge, which I love, love, love. I began taking lessons with Jimmy Loudermilk, who is one of the teachers at a music store near my home. The first day we met, I told him about my lullabies, and (this is really true!) he said he'd written instrumental lullabies and planned to record his own lullaby CD. I really believe God brought us together. He showed me how to play my six songs and was kind enough to lend me five of his so I could write lyrics to them, and voila, we had enough for a CD.
I realized very quickly that it would take me quite a long time to become proficient at guitar, and I really wanted more than anything to record the songs and just see what God did with them. By coincidence, my husband mentioned to a friend (thanks Bob Langley!) that I had songs I wanted to record, and he happened to know a guy named Graham Kuhn, who had recorded CDs, so Graham and I exchanged emails, and he hooked me up with Kevin Wyglad--who, out of all of the towns all around this city, happened to live eight minutes from me. Kevin is an amazingly talented person--he can play every instrument and has his own recording studio. We started recording, and now I have my own web site, a CD, and have met some incredible people along the way.
Robby Heisner designed the CD jacket and CD itself, Paul Tate played piano, Steve Cunningham played lap steel, Bill Pound played flute and harmonica, Steve Mays played fretless bass, and hey, even my husband, Andy, sang with me! Rodney Mills mastered the CD and made me sound better than I ever thought I could! Thank you to everyone for sharing your talent with me to make these songs so beautiful. I really have enjoyed the entire process--from beginning to write to holding a completed CD in my hands--and I thank God for every bit of it. I know God is in charge of where it goes, and I thank Him so much for getting me this far.
To all those stay-at-home moms out there, who feel as if they are defined by that role, that they can't step out of that box, know that you are still you, still a person with dreams and hopes and wants, as much for your children as for yourself--and you will be a better, happier, more fulfilled and complete mom if you honor who you are as an individual as well as a parent. If I can do it, there is no reason you can't follow your dream too! It's waiting for you! Please feel free to email me anytime--I'd love to hear from you--and I will pray for you and your family--also please visit the Feed The Children website--there are so many ways we all can help children in need--I really believe it's what God wants us to do! Thank you all so much and God bless!!!"
