Local singer-songwriter Simone Elias has teamed with some of our best professional musicians to present an auspicious six track debut CD.
Simone, only just turned 17, has an uncommon grace on stage, an unruffled air which is reflected here. She displays a sensitive soul emerging into adulthood, sometimes revealing touches of awkwardness in her lyrics.
Her subject matter is serious. Failed love, violence towards women, and loss of innocence spike strong song writing. Her quieter, more philosophical pieces are also coloured by Simone¹s contemplative outlook. This CD encourages thought.
Ms Elias has a rich voice and the production values on the CD are high. The musicianship and arrangements are polished, as you would expect from Wayne McIntosh, Laurie Ernst, Tom See Poy, Giles Smith, Matt Harrison, Damien Boicos and Simone¹s father, Ray Elias
We have here a singer-songwriter backed by a smooth studio band. Beyond Innocence is a way above average debut CD from a promising young performer.
