Guitarist Thomas Reuben explores improvised compositions in this jazz-infused quartet featuring Marc Edwards on drums, Francois Grillot on double bass and Diego Manuschevich on saxophone and flute.

Thomas Reuben Group was formed in 2006 in Manhattan, New York, when guitarist Thomas Reuben embarked on a project to explore free improvisation as a means of composition in a group dynamic. The resulting CD joins Edwards, Grillot, Manuschevich, and Reuben, in a session embued with the raw creative energies of four fearless improvisers. Loosely guided by Reubenâs arrangements, the quartet attempts to capture a concept, denoted by the titles, then leaves the familiar behind as it aims for something beyond idiom.

This is New York, NY-based Reubenâs debut as a band leader and producer, after a career as a sideman with various bands, and as a solo performer, throughout the U.S., and as a teacher and student of guitar.

Edwards, of Queens, NY, has recorded with Cecil Taylor, Charles Gayle, David S. Ware, Sabir Mateen and Hilliard Greene, and many others, and has released several CDâs with his group Slipstream Time Travel.

Grillot, from Burgundy, France, and now in New York, NY, performs with various avant garde and free jazz ensembles in New York, and has recorded with Steve Swell, Matt Lavelle, Lou Grassi, Ras Moshe, Jackson Krall, and others.

Manuschevich, from Santiago, Chile, performs with free jazz groups in New York and Chile, and leads Santiago-based group Los Ogros Del Swing.

The 42-minute "In Tongues" was recorded live to two-track at LoHo Studios, New York, NY, in May 2006, and was released in August 2007. The quartet is currently engaged in a follow-up CD to be recorded fall 2007.
