LOCAL LINGO
Jason Kao Hwang ⢠composer, violinist
Sang Won Park ⢠Korean zithers: kayagum (12 string, plucked),
ajeng (6 string, bowed with resined stick), and voice
Recorded on January 29, 2006 at Aorta Sound, Jersey City, NJ.
Jason Kao Hwang (violin, composer) and Sang Won Park (kayagum, ajeng, voice) have collaborated over the past sixteen years, first with The Far East Side Band in the 90âs, and now, as a duo. The compositions of Jason Kao Hwang inspire cross-cultural improvisations with Sang Won Park, creating an American music that is their Local Lingo. Local Lingo recently performed at Vision Festival XII/
"Both of these men are great soloists and love to push themselves into unexpected situations... This duo blended ancient (sounding) songs with more modern improvisations and created something quite different." Bruce Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery
"This is a very interesting paring of musicians. Sang Won Park is a master at playing the kayagum. This is a kind of 12-string zither, its bended note properties are often heard to be akin to blues guitar inflections. Jason Kao Hwang is a virtuoso violin player. In this setting both musicians push, pull, intertwine and envelope each other to create an otherwordly combination." Scott Heller, aural-innovations.com , issue 37
