Kol Sasson performs a melodic and vibrant brand of klezmer on violin, flute, mandolin, guitar and bass.
12 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Klezmer, SPIRITUAL: Judaica
Details:
"Kol Sasson" is Hebrew for "sound of joy," from the wedding blessing that speaks of "the sound of joy and rejoicing, the sound of the groom and bride" ("Kol sasson ve'kol simcha, kol chatan ve'kol kallah").
"Di Vayse Zamlung" is Yiddish for "The White Album."
Klezmer is . . . oy vey. Let's just call it instrumental music that has its roots in the repertoire performed at weddings and other celebrations by the Jewish musicians (klezmorim) of eastern Europe. These include, especially, pieces for dancing (a honga, for example, is a line dance). They also include pieces that accompanied other parts of the celebration, like seating the guests (dobridyen) or accompanying them home at the end of a night of revelry (a "gasn nign," or "street tune"). Continuing this tradition, our guitarist wrote "Tzu der khupe" ("to the wedding canopy") as a processional for a wedding in downtown St. Louis, MO.
Musicians:
Jessye Brick--violin
Jeff Briggs--electric bass and doumbek
Boris Golynskiy--flute
Will Soll--mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, Godin nylon-string guitar.
