About this song
As I nursed a bad toothache with the few ice cubes I had left in my styrofoam cup, all melting fast in the hot sun of Colonial Beach, Virginia, I saw my husband lumbering back with some more. "Je retaime" came to mind along with soaring notes. Through this impossibly incorrect French phrase and stirring euro-melody, my heart was telling me I loved him again, despite our terrible conflicts in those days.
PS: An old Catholic saying says there are three stages of marriage: bliss, suffering, and enlightenment. And through it all, there is Love.
